The Saga of
Lucy G.
de Fulton

On the Friday, the 20th of February (2004) we first saw a little stray dog at the intersection of Fulton and Blanco, about 200 feet from our house.  Actually, June saw her there.  Janet saw her in our driveway later that day.  She was dirty and scared to death to come near us.  Janet tried most of the day to get her to come - eventually winning a little trust by offering her some hot dogs.  She was very hungry and eager for the food, but afraid to get too close.  We tried all weekend to catch her without any success.

Tuesday morning we had a hail storm and little Loosey sought shelter on a neighbor's porch.  The neighbor, who had also been in the group trying to catch her, opened the door and Loosey ran into her house!  Once inside, she gave up the tough girl act and has been turning into a real sweetie ever since. After 3 obligatory days at the pound, we brought Lucy home.

The vet said she's about two years old, part terrier and she has incredibly long legs so we wonder if she may not have some whippet in her.  She spent the night in Janet's bathroom.  She was very dirty and VERY smelly.  Her fur was full of mats and she was full of fleas.  We put Frontline on her and got her groomed - well actually we got all her fur cut off - not much too groom once that happened.

We had a party for her on the 28th for everyone who tried to help her. After the party she went home with her new folks, Sharon and John.  We are so happy that everything has worked out.  We're also very proud of our dog Buddy.  He is not the easiest little guy to get along with and we really never thought he would let another dog in the house.   It is way too soon to say they would ever be friends, but he has been much more accepting of her than we ever imagined.

Before (2/20/2004)
She had huge mats
Buddy's not too sure he likes any of this!
My gosh - she's white!
I think I died and this must be heaven!
Saturday, the 6th of March, Lucy came back to stay with us for a week while Sharon and John were on vacation in Arizona.  That night she went with us up to our neighbor's house for dinner and bridge.  Diane, our neighbor was the one who first got Lucy to come inside.  She was very happy to see her again and Lucy was very happy for all the steak scraps and spoiling she got there.

Sunday we went for a ride to the beach where we often take Buddy and also out to Cape Arago.  The two dogs rode together very well and Lucy discovered that ice cream is one of the modern wonders of the world.  Buddy, the gentleman, let her have his ice cream too.  We are very proud of Buddy and the way he is treating Lucy.  He desperately wants to play with Lucy and most of the time she acts as though she doesn't even see him.  It's a bit frustrating for him, but he is still being a very good sport  about it all.  We're hoping as the week goes on, she may become a bit more interested in him.  Oh, she loves the vibrating feature of Janet's automatic bed!!!!
OK Lucy, this is my beach where I get to run around.
The view up here is great!
I scream for ice cream!
Oh boy, a treat!
It's hard to believe that this is the same bedraggled little dog that we couldn't get to come near us all those days.  Isn't it nice to know that in this world, with all its current turmoil, there are still happy endings!
Now (5/8/2004)
Lucy and John
fluffly Lucy
Lucy stopped by for a visit during our garage sale in May.  She's all fluffy now, like a little toy dog.  In fact, Sharon had a little stuffed dog and one day realized it was the same coloring as Lucy.  She gave it to us so we would have a Lucy and now our Lucy sleeps with Janet on her bed every night.
