The Reedsport Chainsaw Carving Festival is always held over Father's Day Weekend. It starts on Thursday and ends Sunday afternoon. It has been going on for a number of years now and has become internationally recognized. We have been attending for several years and started going once at the beginning and again at the end to see how the sculptures take shape.
This year we were able to see how they looked on Thursday afternoon at the end of the first day of carving, on Saturday, and again on Sunday when they had been completed, or as completed as they would get.
Unfortunately, none of the local papers listed the complete results of the competition (Pros and Semi-Pros) and I didn't get the name plates in the shots I took of the sculptures so the only one I am sure about is the 1st Place Winner in the Pros Competition - Chris Foltz of North Bend- with his lion headed gold fish.
I like the winning piece, but I think this one of the Indian and the dragon is my favorite. Maybe he's not an Indian - maybe he's an angel? I didn't get to see all the way around it. I love the detail in the wings.
